Lake County Jail Dashboard

Through a partnership with Loyola University Chicago, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office will have the ability to create comprehensive, centralized views of jail data for review and analysis by the community. This data will give the community the ability to see information such as monthly jail population, and demographical data such as race, ethnicity, gender, age, felony or misdemeanor charges, as well as if the inmate is being held due to pretrial requirements, Judge ordered sentence or being held for U.S. Bureau of Prisons (contract). This initiative was undertaken after listening to input from the public and external community partners, including the recently created Lake County Criminal Justice Community Council. Sharing crucial jail population data will increase transparency, reduce the amount of FOIA and other requests, and provide vital information to government and community organizations to identify solutions to reduce recidivism. 

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “Making this data available to the public is another step in opening our doors and being transparent. The community has been asking for these datasets for years, and I am happy to make it happen. While we are not responsible for the charges many of our inmates are being held on, I believe the community should have the demographical information about who is being held in custody and why.”
